Martin D-41

The 2022 Martin D-41 is one of the highest-quality acoustic guitars from the long-established American manufacturer Martin. With its classic dreadnought body shape, select tonewoods, and beautiful abalone inlays, it combines traditional guitar craftsmanship with an exceptionally elegant appearance. The D-41 offered here is part of the revamped Reimagined Series, through which Martin has further refined numerous details of its classic models starting in 2018.

The history of the Martin D-41 dates back to 1969. Since its introduction, it has been one of the most exclusive models in the Standard Series, combining the proven design of classic Martin dreadnoughts with elaborate features. Particularly distinctive are the elegant abalone inlays, which give the D-41 its unmistakable appearance. In contrast to the even more elaborately decorated D-42 and D-45 models, the D-41 offers a beautiful combination of classic elegance and high-quality craftsmanship.

The top is made of solid Sitka spruce, while the back and sides are crafted from solid East Indian rosewood. This traditional wood combination is one of the most popular in high-end acoustic guitar making and has been closely associated with the distinctive Martin sound for decades. The spruce top provides excellent dynamics and a direct response, while the rosewood gives the sound a deep bass foundation, brilliant trebles, and a rich array of overtones.

A key feature of the redesigned D-41 is the Forward-Shifted Scalloped X-Bracing. The forward-shifted and precisely shaped top bracing allows the solid spruce top to vibrate with exceptional freedom. This enhances the open response, powerful bass projection, and outstanding dynamics. This traditional construction makes a significant sonic difference, especially on a large dreadnought.

In terms of sound, the Martin D-41 impresses with an exceptionally powerful, open, and harmonically rich tone. The bass is deep and full-bodied, the mids are pleasantly warm, and the highs are clear, brilliant, and finely defined. Particularly impressive is the combination of rich fullness and excellent string separation. Even when strumming full chords, the individual notes remain wonderfully defined.

When it comes to fingerstyle, the D-41 impresses with its responsive touch and long, singing sustain. When flatpicking, it delivers excellent projection and clearly brings out individual melody lines. Finally, this large dreadnought truly shines during powerful strumming, where it produces an impressively full and resonant sound. This makes the D-41 ideal for a wide variety of musical styles.

Visually, too, the Martin D-41 is one of the most beautiful guitars in the Standard Series. The intricate abalone inlays along the top, the elegant abalone rosette, and the distinctive fretboard inlays give it its unmistakable appearance. Added to this are the high-quality gold-plated tuners, the elegant ebony fingerboard, and the beautiful high-gloss finish. The carefully selected tonewoods and the fine embellishments underscore the exclusive character of this model.

The modern Modified Low Oval neck profile with High Performance Taper ensures exceptionally comfortable playability. The neck shape fits comfortably in the hand and allows for a natural hand position whether playing chords or using more demanding picking techniques. With a nut width of 44.5 mm and the classic Martin scale length of 645 mm, the guitar offers an excellent combination of traditional feel and modern comfort.

The Martin D-41 from 2022 offered here is in very good to nearly like-new condition overall. There are only a few slight strumming marks on the pickguard. Otherwise, the guitar looks almost brand-new and has clearly been treated with great care. It is also in excellent technical condition. The frets and overall playability are flawless. The original Martin Geib case is included.

We carefully set up every guitar. We adjust the neck radius and string action to ensure that the guitar plays cleanly, comfortably, and without buzzing across the entire fretboard.

The string action is 2.6 mm on the low E-string and 2.0 mm on the high E-string, measured at the 12th fret.
