Product Description

The Eastman E6D-TC is a high-quality, all-solid-wood dreadnought inspired by the great American classic guitars, featuring outstanding craftsmanship, traditional design elements, and an impressive sound. Of particular note is the thermally treated Sitka spruce top, which gives the guitar an open, resonant, and wonderfully well-broken-in tone. With its classic combination of spruce and mahogany, the E6D-TC is reminiscent of the time-honored dreadnoughts of the pre-war American era.

Over the past few decades, Eastman has earned an outstanding reputation for crafting high-quality acoustic instruments. Originally known primarily for its handcrafted string instruments, the company has also become a respected manufacturer in the field of acoustic guitars. Eastman relies on traditional construction methods, carefully selected tonewoods, and a high degree of handcrafted work. In particular, the high-quality, all-solid-wood steel-string guitars are modeled after classic American instruments, which are still considered the gold standard for tone today.

The Eastman E6D-TC embodies this philosophy exactly. Its large dreadnought body shape, with the neck-to-body joint at the 14th fret, is reminiscent of the classic American mahogany dreadnoughts that have shaped the sound of numerous musical genres since the 1930s. The combination of a solid spruce top and solid mahogany for the back and sides is one of the most tried-and-true designs in traditional steel-string guitar making.

A distinctive feature of this model is the thermally treated Sitka spruce top. In the so-called “thermo-curing” process, the wood is heated under controlled conditions. This process alters certain physical properties of the wood. The goal is to replicate some of the characteristics of naturally aged tonewoods and to give the top a free and immediate response even on a relatively new guitar.

A top like this can be particularly interesting, especially on a dreadnought. The large body shape provides ample resonance space and a powerful bass foundation, while the thermally treated spruce supports a quick response to the strum. This results in an open and lively tone reminiscent of an acoustic guitar that has been played in over many years.

Eastman uses solid mahogany for the top and sides. This classic tonewood is known for its warm, dry, and midrange-focused tone. Compared to rosewood, mahogany often has a slightly more direct response and a more controlled harmonic spectrum. It is precisely these characteristics that make mahogany dreadnoughts particularly popular among bluegrass, folk, and singer-songwriter musicians.

The combination of heat-treated Sitka spruce and solid mahogany gives the Eastman E6D-TC a wonderfully balanced tone. Powerful yet controlled bass notes blend with prominent mids and clear, finely defined highs. The guitar offers excellent dynamics and responds immediately to varying playing intensities. Yet the sound always remains transparent and clearly defined.

The openness of this Eastman is particularly impressive. Even with a light touch, it produces a full, resonant tone. Individual notes have a beautiful richness and stand out clearly from one another. At the same time, the large dreadnought offers enough power to produce an impressive volume even with vigorous strumming.

The E6D-TC really shines when it comes to flatpicking. Its direct response, powerful foundation, and prominent mids ensure that individual melody lines stand out clearly. Even with rhythmic accompaniment, the guitar impresses with a dry, powerful, and very musical tone. For fingerpicking, it also offers beautiful dynamics and excellent string separation.

In terms of sound, this Eastman can easily hold its own against significantly more expensive guitars. A direct comparison with a Martin D-18, in particular, highlights the potential of this instrument. The classic combination of a spruce top and mahogany body, along with the traditional dreadnought design, makes such a comparison especially interesting. You’re welcome to compare the Eastman with two different Martin D-18 models right here in our store.

In terms of construction, the E6D-TC also features numerous characteristics typical of high-quality traditional steel-string guitars. Particularly noteworthy is the hand-crafted scalloped X-bracing. In this design, the top ribs are carefully shaped to achieve a balanced combination of stability and freedom of vibration. This allows the top to respond very dynamically and fully express its tonal qualities.

The set mahogany neck underscores the traditional construction. The neck profile is called “Traditional Even C” and offers a pleasantly balanced shape that performs well for both chord playing and more demanding picking techniques. With a nut width of 44.5 mm, the guitar also provides a comfortable feel on the fretboard that accommodates a wide variety of playing styles.

The fingerboard and bridge are made of ebony. This high-quality, durable wood has been used in high-end acoustic guitars for many decades and complements the classic design of the Eastman perfectly. The 645 mm scale length also adheres to the traditional dreadnought design and supports clear articulation and powerful tone projection.

Visually, the Eastman E6D-TC also has a pleasantly classic and understated look. The traditional dreadnought body shape, the natural wood finish, and the high-quality Truetone Gloss finish give it an elegant appearance. The satin-finished neck ensures a pleasant feel and a comfortable playing experience. The high-quality Gotoh tuners round out the features and enable precise and reliable tuning.

The E6D-TC is therefore an exceptionally interesting guitar for players who are looking for that classic American dreadnought sound but aren’t exclusively tied to the big, traditional brand names. Eastman offers a high-quality, superbly crafted guitar with excellent tonewoods and a sound that will delight even the most discerning guitarists.

The guitar is in absolutely mint condition. There are virtually no signs of play or wear. Even the frets are in excellent, nearly unplayed condition. Overall, the instrument makes an exceptionally well-maintained impression. In terms of sound, this Eastman excels across the board and offers equally outstanding playability.

We carefully set up every guitar. We adjust the neck radius and string action to ensure that the guitar plays cleanly, comfortably, and without buzzing across the entire fretboard.

The string action is 2.6 mm on the low E string and 1.7 mm on the high e string, measured at the 12th fret.
