Product Description

Today we have something very special to present to you: a Martin 000-18 1939 – built in one of the most legendary phases of the company’s history and number 122 of only 150 produced!

The late 1930s are regarded as the absolute heyday of Martin guitar making: perfect craftsmanship, the finest tonewoods and a tonal balance that is still considered unrivaled today. For many collectors and players, the 1939 models in particular are the epitome of what a pre-war Martin is all about – warm, direct, open and incomparably musical.

This Martin comes from exactly this legendary vintage and impresses with its exceptionally original state of preservation. Apart from the faithfully reproduced bridge, the bridge inlay and the bone nut, the guitar is completely original. The tortoise pickguard has been reattached, and it has also been professionally refretted and given a precise neck reset.

The careful restoration was carried out with great craftsmanship. Two cracks in the sides were glued almost invisibly, and a fine, superficial crack in the top, which only shines through slightly on the inside, was carefully stabilized. The numerous traces of use give this Martin 000-18 1939 a beautiful, lived-in vintage patina and emphasize the authentic character of this impressive guitar.

The string action is 2.7 mm (E-string) and 1.8 mm (E-string) at the 12th fret and, in combination with the perfectly crafted fingerboard, ensures an excellent playing feel. With its weight of only 1.6 kg, the Martin 000-18 1939 responds sensitively and directly to every touch dynamic. The original Waverly 5038 tuners, also known as “Yoda Heads”, work precisely and stay in tune.

The sound of this Martin 000-18 1939 is strong in character, full and typical of the best instruments from the late pre-war era – open, lively and unmistakably musical. A genuine piece of music history with soul, expression and collector’s value.

An official registration certificate from Greig Hutton is available for this guitar, confirming its authenticity and classification within the Martin history. There is also a confirmation from Martin himself.
