The Martin 00-18 1947 is an impressive example of the legendary craftsmanship that has made the Martin name famous around the world. With almost eight decades of history, it embodies the unmistakable vintage character that only original guitars from this era possess. Despite visible traces of its long life, this Martin 00-18 1947 inspires with an exceptionally warm, balanced tone and a depth that modern reissues lack. It impressively demonstrates why many collectors and musicians consider the instruments of the 1940s in particular to be the best-sounding Martins ever.
The top of the Martin 00-18 1947 is made of spruce, while the back, sides and neck are made of mahogany – a classic combination that ensures an open, resonant and woody sound. The Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and bridge add warmth and definition to the tone. This construction method characterizes the focused midrange for which the 00-18 models are still appreciated today.
Over the decades, expert work has been carried out to preserve the substance and playability. Two cracks in the top and a crack on the rib in the area of the strap pin and on the back were professionally repaired. The Brazilian rosewood bridge was reglued, and the Martin 00-18 1947 also received a neck reset and a complete refret. The result is a pleasantly low string action and a smooth playing feel across the entire fingerboard.
The Martin 00-18 1947 impresses with its directness, dynamics and expression. Its tone is full, warm and present – with the depth and maturity that only genuine vintage guitars possess. It responds sensitively to every playing style and delivers exactly the mixture of clarity, sustain and compression that is typical of Martins from the 1940s. The original machine heads work precisely and reliably. Visually, the instrument shows countless traces of use that underline its history.
