In 2000, this limited edition—produced in a run of just 200—was created in honor of the American singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow. The guitar offered here bears the number 55 of 200 and combines an extraordinary collector’s history with the unmistakable sound of a Gibson that has been played in over decades.

The history of the Gibson Country Western dates back to the 1950s. The model became known as a particularly high-end version of the Southern Jumbo and, with its classic square-shoulder dreadnought body shape, evolved into an integral part of the Gibson acoustic guitar family. The distinctive combination of a spruce top, mahogany body, and traditional Gibson construction produces that warm, direct tone that is still prized by countless singer-songwriters today.

Sheryl Crow is one of the best-known American singer-songwriters of her generation. Her music blends rock, folk, country, and Americana, with acoustic guitars playing a key role throughout her career. The limited-edition Country Western Edition from 2000 draws on this musical connection and is modeled after the classic Gibson acoustic guitars that have shaped the sound of American singer-songwriters for decades.

With a production run of just 200 instruments, this model is one of Gibson’s rarest special editions. The serial number 55 of 200 attests to this instrument’s exceptional provenance and underscores its collectible status.

The guitar features a solid spruce top and a solid mahogany back and sides. This traditional combination of woods is one of the classic formulas of American guitar making and gives the Country Western its characteristic sound. The short Gibson scale length of 629 mm enhances playability and provides a particularly direct playing feel.

Sonically, this guitar impresses with a distinctly dry, woody, and well-broken-in tone. The bass notes are warm and round, the mids are present, and the highs are pleasantly smooth. Particularly striking is the immediate response the guitar exhibits even with a light touch. Individual notes possess a beautiful warmth and definition, while chords develop a full, harmonious sound.

This Gibson really shows its strengths when it comes to strumming. It delivers that classic, slightly compressed, midrange-heavy tone that’s perfect for accompanying vocals, folk, country, and Americana. It also impresses with its natural response and warm, balanced character when fingerpicking.

The musical history of this guitar is particularly interesting. According to the previous owner, it was played by an Irish singer-songwriter for more than 20 years and was subsequently purchased in Dublin. We do not know the musician’s name for certain, but the instrument clearly bears the marks of its long history of musical use.

This Country Western is therefore not a guitar that sat untouched in a collection for decades. It has been played, used on stage, and has developed a patina all its own. It is precisely this combination of a rare special edition, authentic vintage character, and outstanding sound that makes the instrument particularly interesting.

A Fishman Acoustic Matrix Natural II pickup system is installed for amplified performance. This makes it easy to amplify the acoustic sound on stage or during recordings.

The 2000 Gibson Country Western Sheryl Crow is an exceptional instrument for guitarists and collectors looking for a rare Gibson with a distinctive character. Its limited edition status, long musical history, and wonderfully dry, well-played tone make this particular guitar a truly special acoustic instrument.

Condition & History

This Gibson features a distinct, authentic vintage patina that gives it a very special charm. Numerous genuine signs of play and wear, minor dings and dents, and fine cracks in the finish bear witness to its decades of musical use.

The finish shows the characteristic aging process of nitrocellulose lacquer. The fine cracks in the lacquer and the wear marks that have developed over many years give the guitar a look reminiscent of significantly older vintage instruments. This is a naturally occurring patina, not an artificially aged finish.

According to the previous owner, the guitar was played for over 20 years by an Irish singer-songwriter and was later purchased in Dublin. This history is part of the instrument’s story, but is not documented by any records pertaining to the former musician.

Despite the obvious signs of wear, the guitar is in excellent technical condition. It is structurally sound, the neck is straight, and the frets are in very good condition. The existing signs of wear do not affect either the sound or the playability.

All in all, this is a Gibson that has been played extensively but is in excellent technical condition, with an exceptionally beautiful vintage patina and a distinctive character.

The original Gibson case is included with the purchase.

Setup & Playability

We carefully set up every guitar. We adjust the neck radius and string action to ensure that the guitar plays cleanly, comfortably, and without buzzing across the entire fretboard.

The short Gibson scale length and the comfortable neck ensure a high level of playing comfort. Despite its long history of musical use, the Country Western impresses with excellent playability across the entire fretboard.

The string action is 2.6 mm on the low E string and 1.7 mm on the high e string, measured at the 12th fret.

Specifications

Model: Gibson Country Western Sheryl Crow
Year of manufacture: 2000
Limited edition: 200 units, No. 55 of 200
Origin: USA
Body shape: Square Shoulder Dreadnought
Top: Solid spruce
Back and sides: Solid mahogany
Neck: Mahogany
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Bridge: Rosewood
Scale length: 629 mm
Nut width: approx. 43.8 mm
Pickup: Fishman Acoustic Matrix Natural II
Finish: Natural Gloss with authentic vintage patina
Case: Original Gibson case

More guitars from our store

Link Gibson Guitars

Rare Gibson Country Western Sheryl Crow from 2000, limited to just 200 pieces.
