Thanks to its compact design and its characteristic dry, focused tone, it has earned a permanent place among blues, folk, and singer-songwriter musicians over the decades.

The Gibson L-00 offered here was built in Bozeman, Montana, in 2001 and has an interesting feature. With a body depth of approximately 120 mm at the lower bout, it is a rarer deep-body version. Due to the significantly deeper body, the design is somewhat reminiscent of the historic Gibson Nick Lucas models, which also combined a comparatively small body shape with additional body depth.

The deeper body gives the guitar significantly more volume and low-end presence than one would expect from a classic L-00. Added to this is the long scale length of approximately 644 mm. It is precisely this combination of the compact L-00 body shape, additional depth, and long scale length that defines the special character of this model and clearly distinguishes it from the better-known later L-00 models.

The combination of a spruce top and mahogany back and sides delivers the classic Gibson character with powerful mids, a dry foundation, and a wonderfully woody tone. With this guitar, you can immediately tell that it has been played intensively for many years. It is beautifully broken in and has an open, lively, and distinctly characterful sound. The many hours of playing are a major part of its charm. Sonically, it is a truly magnificent guitar with an enormous amount of personality.

A high-quality Takamine TRI-AX 2 soundhole pickup is installed for amplified play. The pickup can be used in either active or passive mode and features a volume control directly on the pickup. It can be installed and removed in just a few simple steps, allowing the guitar to be played entirely acoustically at any time.

The guitar comes with a high-quality Epiphone Elite hardshell case. The beautifully crafted case is a perfect match for the L-00 and is also a great visual complement to the guitar.

The condition of this instrument clearly reflects its history. The guitar was played intensively by a musician and was regularly used on stage. Accordingly, it shows numerous dings and dents, as well as clear signs of play and wear. However, it is precisely this authentic patina that perfectly suits the guitar’s character and gives it a beautiful vintage look. If you’re looking for a flawless collector’s guitar, you’ve come to the wrong place. But if you’re looking for a heavily played, superbly broken-in Gibson with plenty of character and a dreamy tone, you’ll find a truly special instrument here.

We carefully set up every guitar. We adjust the neck radius and string action to ensure that the guitar plays cleanly, comfortably, and without buzzing across the entire fretboard.

The string action is 2.6 mm on the low E string and 1.9 mm on the high e string, measured at the 12th fret.

Specifications:

Model: Gibson L-00 Deep Body
Year built: 2001
Body shape: L-00, Deep Body, 14-fret
Body depth at the lower bout: approx. 120 mm
Scale length: approx. 644 mm
Nut width: 43.5 mm
Top: Spruce
Back and sides: Mahogany
Neck: Mahogany
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Bridge: Rosewood
Bracing: X-Bracing
Pickup: Takamine TRI-AX 2
Finish: Vintage Sunburst, High-Gloss
Case: Epiphone Elite Hardshell Case
Origin: Bozeman, Montana, USA

Link to Gibson Guitars

More guitars from our store

A rare 2001 Gibson L-00 Deep Body with a body depth of approximately 120 mm and a long scale length.
