Tama guitars from this period enjoy an excellent reputation among connoisseurs for their high-quality craftsmanship, careful selection of materials, and distinctive vintage tone.

The standout feature of this Tama 3558 is its Brazilian rosewood back and sides. Brazilian rosewood is one of the most sought-after tonewoods in guitar making and is now a defining characteristic of historical instruments. The original CITES certificate for the Brazilian rosewood is included.

Sonically, the combination of a spruce top and Brazilian rosewood delivers a rich, open sound full of overtones. The guitar features a quick response, excellent dynamics, and very good string separation. After more than 50 years, it has developed a wonderfully mature and well-broken-in character and offers an impressive vintage sound with plenty of depth and personality.

The guitar is from its first owner. A pickup system is already installed, with its jack output located on the side of the body. The manufacturer of the pickup is unknown. The system works flawlessly and delivers excellent sound reproduction.

The guitar shows significant wear and has been played extensively over many decades. It has numerous dings, dents, and signs of wear that give it an authentic vintage look. There is no structural damage. The guitar has no cracks or breaks, and it plays exceptionally well.

We carefully set up every guitar. We adjust the neck radius and string action to ensure that the guitar plays cleanly, comfortably, and without buzzing across the entire fretboard.

The string action is 2.2 mm on the low E string and 1.7 mm on the high e string, measured at the 12th fret.

Specifications:

Model: Tama 3558
Year of manufacture: 1974
Top: Spruce
Back and sides: Brazilian rosewood
Neck: Mahogany
Fingerboard: Rosewood
Bridge: Ebonized rosewood
Scale length: 648 mm
Nut width: 43 mm
Body shape: Dreadnought
Pickup: Manufacturer unknown
Case: Original vintage hard-shell case
Documents: Original CITES certificate included

More information about Tama guitars

More guitars from our store

A 1974 Tama 3558 made with Brazilian rosewood.
