The serial number and the “Made in USA” stamp officially indicate early 1970 – but crucial details point to a 1969 model: The neck has no volute (thickening on the neck at the transition to the head), which only became standard from 1970 onwards. The one-piece X-bracing used also corresponds to the lighter, more resonant construction of the 60s and ensures an open-sounding, lively tone – a far cry from the heavier sound of the later Norlin years.

In terms of sound, the Dove offers exactly what it is famous for: clear trebles, punchy mids and a defined bass – all embedded in the great dynamics of a square-shoulder dreadnought. The solid spruce top in combination with maple sides and back produces a brilliant, direct sound character that is ideal for strumming and songwriting.

The overall condition of the guitar is very good. There are numerous signs of play, small scratches and dings & dongs, but no cracks, breaks or repairs. The guitar is completely original, including bridge, pickguard and machine heads. The truss rod also works perfectly. The string action is flat and the guitar plays as smooth as butter.

An inconspicuous K and K pure Mini Western pickup was installed to reproduce the great sound with amplification.

The Dove is supplied in a sturdy but not original hardshell case.

Specifications
Body shape: Square Shoulder Dreadnought
Top: solid Sitka spruce
Back & sides: maple
Scale length: approx. 648 mm
Nut width: approx. 43.8 mm
String spacing at the 12th fret:
E = 2.25mm
e = 1.75mm

Classic Gibson Dove from the transition period 1969/70, before the Norlin era – with lighter X-bracing and without volute.
