For sale is an extremely rare Tama TG 190 – the last and probably most high-end model ever produced under the Tama brand. The history of this guitar is closely tied to the development of the Japanese guitar industry. The Tama brand was created by Hoshino Gakki, the parent company of Ibanez. The name “Tama” traces back to Tama Hoshino, the wife of the company’s founder, Yoshitaro Hoshino. Tama guitars were built with the utmost precision in the 1970s before the brand was discontinued in 1979 in favor of the Ibanez Artwood series.
The TG 190 was produced for only one year and is considered the last great masterpiece from Tama. It was designed to make a statement of the highest quality and craftsmanship – a farewell tribute to the guitar world. The last remaining high-quality tonewoods from Tama were later acquired by Ibanez and used in the Artwood series. It is believed that some unfinished Tama guitars were later sold as “Ibanez Mastercraft Guitars.”
The TG 190 features a solid German spruce top, providing an open and resonant sound. The back and sides are made of the finest Brazilian rosewood, giving it a warm, powerful tone with clear high-end definition. The mahogany neck ensures comfortable playability, while the fingerboard, bridge, and pickguard are also made of Brazilian rosewood – a testament to the guitar’s exceptional quality.
In terms of sound, this is truly an outstanding guitar. We have rarely had a guitar in our hands that impressed us this much. Absolutely stunning.
A high-quality EMG pickup with volume and tone controls ensures impressive amplification without altering the guitar’s natural tone. The action is low, a neck reset has not been necessary, and the saddle still has sufficient height to ensure long-term optimal playability.
The guitar is in very good condition, with numerous age-related play marks that give it an authentic vintage look. However, there are no cracks, breaks, or structural damage. The frets are in excellent condition.
