Product Description

For sale is a super rare Tama TG 190 – the last and probably highest quality model produced under the Tama brand. The history of this guitar is closely linked to the development of the Japanese guitar industry. The Tama brand was founded by Hoshino Gakki, the parent company of Ibanez. The name “Tama” goes back to Tama Hoshino, the wife of company founder Yoshitaro Hoshino. Tama guitars were manufactured with the highest precision in the 1970s before the brand was discontinued in 1979 in favor of the Ibanez Artwood series.

The TG 190 was only produced for one year and is considered Tama’s last great masterpiece. It was developed to make a statement of the highest quality and craftsmanship – a farewell to the guitar world. The last remaining high-quality tonewoods from Tama were later taken over by Ibanez and used in the Artwood series. It is assumed that some unfinished Tama guitars were sold on as “Ibanez Mastercraft Guitars”.

The TG 190 is equipped with a solid German spruce top, which ensures an open, resonant sound. The back and sides are made of the best Rio rosewood, which gives it a warm, powerful tone with clear definition in the trebles. The mahogany neck offers comfortable playability, while the fingerboard, bridge and pickguard are also made of Rio rosewood – a sign of the exceptional quality of this guitar.

In terms of sound, this is a truly exceptional guitar. We have hardly had any other guitar with us that has impressed us so much. Dreamlike.

A high-quality EMG pickup with volume and tone potentiometer provides impressive amplification without distorting the natural sound. The string action is flat, a neck reset was not necessary and the bridge inlay is still high enough to ensure optimum long-term playability.

The condition of the guitar is very good, with numerous signs of age-related wear that give it an authentic vintage look. However, there are no cracks, breaks or structural damage. The frets are in very good condition.
