Product Description

The Martin HD-28VS is a special interpretation of the legendary dreadnought and is based on the very first D-28 models from the early 1930s. At that time, Martin was still building 12-fret dreadnoughts with slotted headstocks – instruments that are among the rarest and most sought-after Martin guitars today. With the introduction of the Vintage Series in 1996, Martin brought back this historic concept as the HD-28VS, combining classic construction with modern manufacturing precision.

The Martin HD-28VS is characterized by its traditional 12-fret construction. The bridge has been moved further into the center of the body, creating a particularly full bass foundation with great depth and sustain. Back and sides made of East Indian rosewood meet a spruce top with aging toner and scalloped X-bracing. The result is a powerful, open dreadnought sound with plenty of volume, a pronounced bass range and clear projection – ideal for strumming, bluegrass and powerful flatpicking.

The modified V-neck with a nut width of 44.5 mm conveys a classic playing feel and offers sufficient comfort at the same time. The long scale length of 25.4″ ensures a tight response and assertiveness. Visually, details such as bold herringbone purfling, abalone inlays in the Diamonds & Squares long pattern and the slotted headstock underline the authentic vintage character of the Martin HD-28VS.

The copy offered here dates from 2004 and is in very good condition. There are only minor traces of use consistent with its age. Technically, the guitar is flawless and ready to play immediately. In terms of sound, it delivers exactly what this model is prized for: Depth, volume and the unmistakable character of a 12-fret dreadnought with a rosewood body.
