Gibson SJ-200 Hummingbirds and Flowers

The Gibson SJ-200 is one of the most legendary acoustic guitars of all time and is called the “King of the Flat-Tops” for good reason. Since its introduction at the end of the 1930s, this model has stood for size, presence and a powerful, open sound. With its imposing jumbo body, maple back and characteristic look, it is still one of the most iconic guitars in music history.

The Gibson SJ-200 offered here is an instrument from 1999 that was fitted with an exclusive custom double pickguard. This special design bears the name “Hummingbirds and Flowers”. The two pickguards were manufactured and elaborately engraved by MV Custom Guitars in Greece. The design combines elements of the classic Gibson Hummingbird with the striking appearance of the SJ-200 and makes this guitar a truly unique piece.

The guitar has been played for over two decades and shows the typical characteristics of a well-seasoned instrument. There are fine cracks in the nitrocellulose lacquer on the top, a natural ageing process that is now specifically reproduced in the Gibson Murphy Lab. Overall, the guitar is in very good condition with normal, age-appropriate traces of use. The frets are also in very good condition and offer excellent playability.

In terms of sound, this SJ-200 impresses with a full and very musical tone despite the large, artistically designed batter boards. It delivers the typical, large SJ-200 sound image with a powerful bass foundation, clear trebles and an open, carrying projection. The character is independent, warm and very expressive.

The string action is comfortably set at 2.7 mm on the low E-string and 2.0 mm on the high E-string at the 12th fret, making it easy to play.

The guitar comes with its original Gibson case.
