Product Description

The Gibson SJ-200 is one of the most iconic acoustic guitars in music history. Originally introduced in the late 1930s, this model quickly became one of the most famous jumbo guitars ever. Its big, powerful sound, impressive projection and striking looks made the SJ-200 the instrument of choice for many famous musicians over the decades.

With the Gibson 1938 SJ-200, the Gibson Custom Shop in Montana has created a particularly high-quality reissue of these early models. This version is consistently based on the historic SJ-200 guitars from 1938 and is one of the rarest modern interpretations of this legendary jumbo model.

The instrument offered here comes from a strictly limited edition of only 30 pieces worldwide. Particularly noteworthy is the exceptional wood combination of Adirondack Red Spruce for the top and rosewood for the back and sides – a very rare and highly sought-after combination for SJ-200 models. It ensures enormous dynamics, great projection and a deep, yet very clear and brilliant tone.

The two-piece maple neck with walnut center stripe lies comfortably in the hand and, together with the bound rosewood fingerboard, offers excellent playability. In terms of sound, this Gibson 1938 SJ-200 delivers exactly what you would expect from a large jumbo: powerful basses, warm mids and clear, assertive trebles with plenty of volume.

This Gibson 1938 SJ-200 was made in 2016 and is in mint condition. The frets show practically no signs of wear and are as good as new. The string action is pleasantly flat and, together with the comfortable neck profile, makes it very comfortable to play.

The guitar is supplied with its original case and all the associated documentation.
