The Epiphone Pre-War SJ-200 Rosewood Reissue is modeled after the early versions of the legendary SJ-200 and combines the impressive Super Jumbo body style with a particularly interesting selection of woods. As a model from the Inspired by Gibson series, it incorporates numerous classic details from its historic predecessor and combines them with modern, stage-ready features.
A distinctive feature of this model is the use of solid rosewood for the back and sides. Combined with the solid torrefied spruce top, this produces a powerful and full-bodied sound with a pronounced bass foundation, clear highs, and a beautiful spectrum of overtones. The scalloped X-bracing supports an open and dynamic response and allows the large top to vibrate freely.
Despite its imposing super-jumbo body shape, the guitar offers beautiful definition and string separation. When strummed vigorously, it delivers the volume and projection you’d expect from an SJ-200, yet it responds just as well to a more subtle playing style and picking. The torrefied top contributes to an open and already pleasantly broken-in tone.
Visually, too, the Epiphone Pre-War SJ-200 Rosewood Reissue is an impressive guitar. The classic vintage sunburst finish, the intricately decorated SJ-200-style pickguard, and the gold-plated Grover Imperial tuners give it the distinctive look of the great historic SJ-200 models. The graduated crown inlays made of mother-of-pearl add further classic touches. The fingerboard and bridge are made of ebony.
A high-quality L.R. Baggs Element Bronze VTC pickup system is already installed for enhanced performance. Volume and tone can be adjusted using the controls discreetly mounted in the soundhole. This makes the guitar ideal for use on stage as well.
The guitar offered here was built in 2025 and is in like-new condition. It has been cared for with great attention and shows no significant signs of wear. The frets are also in like-new condition.
We carefully set up every guitar. We adjust the neck radius and string action to ensure that the guitar plays cleanly, comfortably, and without buzzing across the entire fretboard.
The string action is 2.7 mm on the low E-string and 2.2 mm on the high E-string, measured at the 12th fret.
