Today we would like to introduce you to a Martin OM-28V from the popular Vintage Series – a model that combines the tradition of early Martin guitar making with modern precision. Since its introduction at the end of the 1920s, the OM-28 has been considered one of the most groundbreaking designs in the company’s history. It was the first Martin guitar with 14 frets free on the body and a long scale length, specially developed for steel strings – a concept that later influenced countless guitar designs and is still one of the most popular Martin formats today.
The Vintage Series picks up on these historic specifications and is closely based on the pre-war models without sacrificing the build quality of modern Martin guitars. The combination of a Sitka spruce top, East Indian rosewood for the back and sides and the modified V-neck profile makes the Martin OM-28V a versatile, excellently playable and balanced-sounding guitar.
This example with the serial number 588042 dates back to 1996 and is in exceptionally good condition – especially for a guitar that is almost 30 years old. There are no significant traces of use, and the frets show only slight signs of wear. The original tuners were replaced with high-quality gold Waverly tuners at the time of purchase, which fit this Martin OM-28V perfectly both visually and functionally and further emphasize its high-quality appearance.
In terms of sound, the Martin OM-28V offers exactly what the Vintage Series is appreciated for: a balanced, dynamic sound with a clear response, warm mids and brilliant highs. It reacts directly, carries excellently in fingerstyle playing styles and at the same time provides sufficient foundation for strumming passages. With its comfortable string action, perfectly crafted neck and light body weight, this OM-28V is effortless and inspiring to play.
A great guitar with a terrific sound and excellent playability – an instrument that perfectly embodies the strengths of the classic OM design.
